Founded on nearly 4 decades of research and study, the Natural Trim simulates the exemplary hooves of the Wild horses living in the high deserts of the American West.
These Wild horses are made incredibly strong and athletic by a life of constant travel and grazing from watering hole to watering hole. With the abrasive wear from roaming the rugged terrain, and nourished by a diet of high desert grasses and forage (very low in sugar!), these horses form hooves that are healthful, tough and well-shaped.
The Natural Trim is beautiful in its simplicity. By following the natural shape and contour of your horse's hoof, the Natural Trim simply removes any excess growth in the sole and hoof wall that is not worn away by the horse itself between trim cycles. This, supported by a reasonably natural diet, either maintains a healthy hoof, or gently and gradually guides a less healthy hoof towards ideal form and function, producing healthier new growth over the course of trim cycles.
The Natural Trim proceeds from the understanding that the hoof has been shaped by millions of years of evolution, and its form and function is overwhelmingly shaped not just by conformation, but the adaptive forces of the horse's biology in response to diet and environment.
